About Landscape Architecture Month

April marks World Landscape Architecture Month, a time to recognize the significance of landscape architecture in our communities and to celebrate the design behind outdoor spaces that provide attractive and functional experiences. At Barghausen, we are excited to highlight our landscape architecture team and share some of the projects they have provided services for.

Within our firm, we take pride in the multidisciplinary approach we provide. Our landscape architects work in conjunction with our planning and engineering staff to design sustainable outdoor spaces that maximize functionality. Beyond functionality, we believe that well-designed outdoor spaces are important in the different industries we serve.

Barghausen's Landscape Architecture team

"My inspiration to follow a career in landscape architecture was based on my love of plants and nature, a penchant for drawing, and geometric organization. There are many directions one can take within the profession. My career has enabled me to participate in a wide range of private and public project types including small downtown revitalization, environmental impact analysis, public parks, wetland mitigation, children’s play areas, small landscape structures, multi-purpose and woodland trails, school sites, sports facilities, and streetscapes. My favorite projects have involved creative resolution of tough challenges and design that encourages human interaction and a sense of playfulness." -Lauren Perry, Landscape Architect

The first five years of my life started to inspire a career in landscape architecture. I spent much of that time in my Grandma’s garden “helping” her by digging up worms and learning about all the plants. I happened to be in a graphic design career that I didn’t find fulfilling when I found myself at Naumkeag which is a particularly inspiring designed landscape in Stockbridge, Massachusetts. From there, my design training, early life, and surroundings just sort of went *click*! I probably would not have stuck with it if it weren’t for some of my teachers at the University of Washington; they’re probably my real landscape inspiration. On a purely personal level, my favorite aspect of landscape architecture is the feeling of being on some random drive around the region, and going, "Hey – I designed that!" All the disciplines came together to make Bridge Point I-5 in Milton which is a satisfying project. It's a big industrial park site, not necessarily what you'd think of as an inspiring landscape, but the size, the site, the slopes, and the design combined to create some pretty special spots." -Tom Roberts, Landscape Architect
