CHI Franciscan Rehabilitation Hospital is an ultramodern space dedicated to the journey of patient recovery. This location is a center for patients recovering from brain and spinal cord injuries, long-term illness, strokes and other neurological conditions. Barghausen was involved  in the demolition and renovation of the CHI-Franciscan Rehabilitation Hospital in Tacoma, WA.

This project was exceptional because of the specific needs of the rehabilitation center. Our landscape architecture team designed the outdoor courtyard space to accommodate areas for walking on different surfaces including sand, gravel, pavers, turf, stairs, ramps and a putting green. These particular spaces required creative design around the grading and drainage challenges. The site also had an elevation drop from the northeast to the southeast, requiring a functional design for patient mobility throughout. With these challenges in functionality, we executed a cost effective and beautiful solution for the client.
