LIUNA Local 242

Des Moines, WA

Community and Recreation, Civil Engineering, Land Surveying | 1-Acre

LIUNA Local 242 recently broke ground on a 1-acre site for a new training school in Des Moines, WA. The school is being built in partnership with Northwest Laborers Training, which has taught in the Pacific Northwest since 1983. The building will have the capacity to educate over 1,000 students annually by its projected finish date in 2025!

The original site featured the previous building’s foundation, multiple trees, and a sloped terrain from east to west. Our demolition and TESC plan involved removing the existing building foundation, gravel, retaining walls, curbs, gutters, and fences. Additionally, the construction plan includes site preparation, building construction, paving, and stormwater and utility installations.

During the construction phase, swales will direct runoff to a temporary sediment pond before discharging to the public storm system. Once constructed, a stormwater conveyance system will direct runoff to a proposed water quality treatment vault before reaching a detention vault which will manage excess water from the developed area. A portion of the site will direct runoff to biofiltration areas within the central parking island to improve water quality and water quantity.

The completed project will include a 20,000± SF training school, including an underground parking garage, and 2 floors allocated to administration and classroom space. Additionally, the school will have parking facilities, drive aisles, and an 8,600± SF outdoor graveled area dedicated to student training activities.
