National Intern Day 2021

Employee Insights

The Intern Experience

Barghausen strives to provide an all inclusive internship experience that prepares students for a successful transition into their careers. Our goal is to help the future generation of the professional services industry plant their feet and grow. We aim to provide an encouraging environment and welcome the fresh perspectives that our interns bring to the table. Our hands-on approach allows our interns to apply their knowledge and work directly with experienced professionals on a diverse range of projects.

Many of our interns end up sticking with us after graduation. In the past two years, we have hired 6 of our interns as full-time employees! In light of National Intern Day, we asked our current and past interns to answer some questions about their internship experience.

Emery Norwood

Emery Norwood - 2019 & 2020 Intern

Interned: 2019 & 2020

Hired as a full-time Design Engineer in 2021.

Describe a day in the life of a Barghausen intern:

Everyday was different and I worked on a variety of projects. Most days I would spend time in my manager's office going over a project and getting an understanding of what I needed to do, and then I would go back to my desk and work on it.

What are some of your favorite memories as an intern?

I really enjoyed going through the internship experience with another college student in the office with me. It was fun to talk about the different projects we were both working on.

What skills did you learn during your internship that were crucial to your transition to a full time employee?

I gained a lot of Civil 3D experience I didn’t have before, and that has helped me a ton. Having the opportunity to get more familiar with the program before working full time was really important.

How can future interns optimize their internship experience?

Ask questions! I learned the most from asking other engineers in the office questions when I got stuck or was just curious about something.

What are you most excited about now that you’ve started your career with Barghausen?

I am excited to continue learning and being challenged every day at work.
